כנס PIMUN

Paris International Model UN Convention

"Honorable chairs, distinguished delegates,

When humanitarian aid leaves a community affected by a natural or manmade disaster, they are left to struggle with the devastating financial juggernauts left in its wake. This is where disaster resilience comes into play.

In the last few years, Canada applied the appraised Stabilization And Reconstruction Task Force (START) to affected communities around the globe, successfully supporting infrastructure and economic rehabilitation and development and preparing them to withstand disasters better in the future.

As the Canadian START has made a real difference in post-disaster societies, we believe a global START can make an even bigger difference. We therefore urge our fellow delegates to adopt the Canadian START and implement it in their countries.

The solution isn't around the corner; it already exists and is prospering! So, let's START working for a better tomorrow and changing the lives of communities in disaster-affected areas."

"Honorable chairs, distinguished delegates,

OPEC's refusal to limit its oil production and the growing awareness of global warming and the usage of renewable energy sources has led to a substantial decline in oil prices. The low oil prices may benefit consumer countries, but they harm the income of producing countries.

Canada is the 5th largest oil-producing country in the world. The Canadian dollar is considered a petrocurrency –a currency that depends on the sale of oil, and therefore has been strongly impacted by the oil price decline. The Canadian Loonie is not the only currency affected – the Brazilian Real, Russian Ruble, Norwegian Krone, the Colombian Peso, and many other currencies have been affected by this decline. Therefore, it is our common goal to raise oil prices.

We urge the delegates to join us in regulating the prices by limiting oil production and creating international oil trade agreements and contracts between importing and exporting countries.

This will stabilize oil prices and overcome the price decline and its effects."
